The Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (MWAA) contracted Facchina to build the North Area Roadways project at Dulles Airport in Arlington, VA. The project involves 150,000 cubic yards of earth and rock excavation, demolition of existing highway bridges, construction of 4 new highway bridges (3 of which are over Horse Pen Run), 33,000 SF of mechanically stabilized earth walls, 4,800 linear feet of storm sewer, 49,000 tons of aggregate base, 30,000 tons of asphalt paving and 4 new overhead sign structures.
The project included the construction of a new collector-distributor road parallel to the west bound Dulles Access Road west of Route 28. This project provides a safer method to enter the Dulles Access freeway from the Route 28 acceleration ramp and exit the access road to the satellite parking lots as motorists approach the main terminal of the airport.
