The Consolidated Rental Car Facility project included the construction of a 2.2 Million SF Post-Tensioned Cast-in-Place Concrete Parking Structure and Tenant Parking Facility at BWI Airport. Facchina self-performed the majority of all site work on the 130-acre site, which required more than 1,000,000 CY of excavation.

In order to meet an early milestone date, Facchina and its subcontractors worked diligently to move more than 700,000 CY of earth in only four months. Construction of the garage included a 330 LF retaining wall and 2 bridges allowing access to the upper deck. Building construction required the placement of more than 75,000 CY of concrete which accounted for $35,000,000 dollars of the total $96,000,000 dollar contract.

The adjacent Tenant Parking Construction included 80-acres of asphalt paving and the installation of more than 73,000 LF of storm, sanitary, and water line. Construction required coordination with other contractors building within the center courtyard of Facchina's footprint.

Facchina was required to obtain crane height permits to work in the direct path of one of the airport's busiest runways, restricting crane size and dictating construction sequencing. The fast-tracked construction was completed per contract in December 2003.

This project was awarded the St. Paul Travelers/Willis Construction Services Safety Excellence Award for 2003 for 741,706 man-hours worked without a lost time accident.
